Week in, week out, I’ve been seeing Tim’s cronut creations on instagram and I’ve been salivating over the photos! They look so decadent and pretty!
Luckily, I was in town yesterday to do some shopping around the Bourke St Mall area before heading to lunch with @petitemiamx, so I decided to drop inside GPO to try my luck. Luckily there was quite a few left in both Raspberry & Rhubarb or Chocolate Brownie flavour. They both looked so enticing, but in the end I decided to choose the Raspberry & Rhubarb!

So what exactly is a cronut? A cronut is a croissant-donut hybrid pastry that was invented by chef Dominique Ansel for Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City and since then the cronut has been popping up all over the place. Does it taste like a donut? Yes it does. Is it as flakey like a croissant? you betcha! :)

Now, eating this cronut is a bit of a challenge itself – it’s super flakey and it’s big! My advice is to decline on the fork offer by the lady and use your hands and eat it! Yes, your mouth will be covered in icing sugar, but you will be in heaven.
The cronut was very flakey and crispy and there’s also a layer of raspberry & rhubarb sauce in the middle. The pairing of the raspberry & rhubarb gave the cronut a bit of a tart taste which cuts through the sweetness of the icing.
I also love the dehydrated raspberry added ontop of the cronut. Love it!

Definitely visit one of the Cacao Fine Chocolates and Patisserie stores to give the cronut a try, and follow Tim’s instagram to see his other creations! They always look so amazing! :D
