Back in February 2012 when I was out for lunch with my good friend Audrey; she told me about The Famous Spiegeltent and all the shows that she attended. As we trammed passed the The Famous Spiegeltent I was so intrigued by the colorful popup tent outside the Melbourne Art Centre. Sadly I didn’t get a chance to visit.
Luckily for me I had the opportunity to check out a very interesting show on Saturday where they combine music with a macaron masterclass featuring headchef Pierrick Boyer from Le Petite Gateau and the Ukeladies.
Together with my good friend Audrey, we attended The Macaron Luau together. It was a beautiful sunny day (rather hot!) and luckily for us there’s a small bar that solves cold alcoholic drinks, so Audrey and I grabbed a glass of Caprioska each! Yum!

Clik here to view.Once the show started, Linda Catalano, the producer of The Famous Spiegeltent, came up on stage to explain how the show came about.
One afternoon, Linda was having a conversation with her colleague and together they came up with the idea of combining food with music.
As a result, they invited executive head chef of Le Petite Gateau, Pierrick Boyer to present a Macaron master class.
We found out that Pierrick enjoys listening to Hawaiian music whilst he bakes (I wonder if he listens to Hawaiian music when he bakes in the kitchen of Le Petite Gateau?

Clik here to view.Pierrick piping out the macaron mixture. He looks so focus and serious!
He also had two people from the audience to pipe them as well! Very interactive experience!

Clik here to view. The finished product! Mai Tai Macarons!
We all received a box of 4 Mai Tai Macarons to take home!. No one knew, so it was definitely an added bonus!
I dare say that these macarons are better than La Belle Miette macarons. Those who are close to me will know that I constantly rave about the consistent quality of La Belle Miette, but I think Le Petite Gateau is up there!
The pineapple vanilla compote that was added to the chocolate ganache did not overpower the delicate taste of the macaron shells, and the macaron shells were chewy and slightly airy! PURRRRFECT!
Overall
- Both Audrey and I enjoyed the show. Pierrick is a very funny individual and is great with interacting with the audience.
- The Ukeladies and band played great live music. The music was soothing and it set the mood for the Hawaiian inspired macarons.
- Music + Food. Seriously, how can you go wrong? :) Genius idea Linda :)
Sadly, this is a once off show for The Macaron Luau, however some of these foodie shows may be of interest:
